A Journey Guided by Music and Silence
The Early Years
At the age of thirteen, discovering The Beatles and The Rolling Stones marked the beginning of a lifelong calling. Music quickly became his reason for living. Jean-Marc Staehle began as a guitarist, then a bassist, before studying at the Dijon Conservatory and later exploring the world of jazz.
The Inner Turning Point
A profound spiritual experience and the practice of meditation gradually transformed his relationship with music. Inspired by Vangelis, Kitaro, Brian Eno, Deuter, and the distinctive aesthetic of the ECM label, he discovered a different path: music that is slower, more introspective, and one in which silence becomes a living presence.
Years of Creative Exploration
In the early 1990s, Jean-Marc Staehle devoted himself to composing relaxation, meditation, and wellness music. His albums accompany meditation, Reiki, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, yoga, and countless moments of inner calm. Over the years, he has released more than forty albums and composed hundreds of pieces that are now enjoyed by listeners in many countries around the world.
Today
Today, this artistic journey continues with Stillmotion Qi, a world where music, nature, imagery, and silence come together. Each creation invites us to slow down, breathe, and rediscover a space of mindful presence.
Music as an Inner Journey
From the energy of rock to the quiet breath of silence.
For many years, I was fascinated by the energy that music can convey. As a teenager, discovering The Beatles and The Rolling Stones inspired me to become a musician. Their energy, freedom, and intensity opened the door to a whole new world.
Later, through the practice of meditation and yoga, and following a profound spiritual experience in India, I discovered another kind of energy—one that is quieter and deeper. In Eastern traditions, it is known as Qi, Chi, or Tao: a subtle life force that flows through nature, the breath, and all living beings.
I then realized that my music no longer needed to seek power through speed or volume. It could emerge from silence, from the breath, from slow movement, and from the space between the notes. It is this quality of presence that I have sought to express through each of my compositions.
While some music releases energy through intensity and explosive power, I chose to explore a different path—one shaped by gentleness, harmony, and contemplation. It is music created to accompany meditation, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and yoga, or simply those quiet moments when we slow down and reconnect with ourselves and with nature.
Today, this vision lives on through Stillmotion Qi, where music, imagery, and natural landscapes come together to create a space where we breathe a little more slowly, where silence is given the place it deserves, and where everyone is invited to discover their own experience of inner presence.
"Creating a space where we breathe a little more slowly, rediscover silence, and reconnect with ourselves."
